Got to do the dives at Rock Lake I had planned. I met up with Randy Peine of Cambridge Divers and we spent two days diving various sites on Rock Lake last weekend.
During the dives we found rock mounds, pukawska pit remains (see the picture), a partial effigy mound and what appeared to be a mortar stone for grinding grain. Unfortunately visibility has started to go bad as the spring algea and diatom blooms are in full force (sometimes it looked like it was snowing underwater.)
I really enjoyed the dives and the water was a balmy 48-52 degrees in the lake. I had a bit of a problem with a missing drysuit inflator hose, but we resolved it the second day. I am still fighting the Canon 20D ERR99 issues (on the first dive after about 4-5 shots I get an ERR99 and the camera locks up, drop the battery and replace it and the camera works fine for the rest of the day).
So, for those of you who know about Rock Lake and wonder if the reported structures are there, I can say yes to some of them. I may be going back in the late fall after the algea and diatoms die off and do some more investigation.
Safe dives!
